The National Democratic Alliance is Taking Part in the Conference of the International Democracy Union
NDA Council Members Ara Papyan and Garegin Chugaszyan are participating in the regular Conference of the International Democracy Union (IDU), currently taking place in Zagreb, Croatia, since April 29, 2026.
The NDA is the only political force from Armenia invited to this important conference.
The International Democracy Union is an influential global political platform, founded in 1983 at the initiative of Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan. It is an alliance of center-right, national-conservative, and Christian-democratic parties from different countries around the world.
The Union includes more than 80 political forces, ranging from the Republican Party of the United States and the Conservative Party of Great Britain to the CDU/CSU of Germany, Likud , and the Liberal Democratic Party (Japan).
Within the framework of the conference, the NDA delegation has already held a few productive meetings with high-level political figures, opposition leaders from different countries, and representatives of the business community.
The discussions focused on current challenges to regional and global security, concerns about democratic processes in Armenia, the persecution unleashed by the authorities against the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church, as well as the possibilities of deepening international cooperation between forces with a national-state orientation.
The meetings mentioned above allowed the NDA to present its Armenia-centric approaches, strengthen ties with international partners, and outline new perspectives for further cooperation. The conference is still ongoing.
As a reminder, the delegation of the National-Democratic Alliance also participated in the previous conferences of the International Democracy Union in May 2025, held in Brussels, and in December of the same year in Washington.
