NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC ALLIANCE

STATEMENT BY THE COUNCIL OF THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC ALLIANCE

Regarding the Arrests and Detentions of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan and Some Members of the Sacred Movement

The National Democratic Alliance condemns the actions taken by the law enforcement bodies of the Republic of Armenia against Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan and several members of the Sacred Movement, as well as the serious charges presented against them.

These ongoing illegal actions by the current administration, which are framed as legal processes, are, in fact, clear acts of political retaliation. From the outset, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and representatives of the ruling political force have influenced law enforcement agencies, making statements that display obvious political motives. Such interference undermines the independence of the courts and the principle of the rule of law.

The harsh actions taken by law enforcement agencies not only lack sufficient legal grounds but are also based on conclusions reached through a distorted procedure and legally dubious, disproportionate accusations. The presumption of innocence for these individuals was violated even before the official process began, due to political comments and targeted propaganda from government representatives.

The National Democratic Alliance is committed to continuing the struggle for national dignity, independent statehood, and the free expression of the sovereign will of the people. We reaffirm our dedication to fighting for democracy, the rule of law, and the protection of human rights.

We call on the international community and human rights organizations to take a clear stance against the ongoing human rights violations in Armenia by the collaborationist regime.
